Bakari is a former NCAA Division 1 Men’s golfer at the University of Southern California ‘19 graduating with a major in Philosophy and a minor in Cinematic Arts. Coming out of Harvard Westlake High School in North Hollywood, CA he was the #7 AJGA ranked junior in California for the class of 2014 and a Top 50 AJGA ranked player in the Nation earning him a spot on the #2 team in the Nation where the Trojans would go on to finish runner up in the NCAA National Championship during his Freshman season.
That 2015 Summer heading into Bakari’s Sophomore season was a difficult but important time to reflect and observe his overall life plan/goals.
“Yea, that was a tough time for me as I felt like I was moving from one stage of my life as a competitive golfer to the next as a creator. I was meeting so many diverse and incredible people my first year at USC and they honestly inspired me to explore my creative talents/abilities which is the role I’m preparing to pursue full time starting in the Summer of 2023.”
After foregoing a career as a professional golfer, Bakari decided to stay close to the game as he is still shares a passion for golf starting his career at the top country clubs in Los Angeles going from Bel-Air Country Club to Los Angeles Country Club to Hillcrest Country Club from 2018-2022 and is currently getting ready for his 4th season as the assistant boys golf coach at Harvard Westlake School.
Current Role at Harvard Westlake
As a HW alumnus and assistant coach I help program head Scott Wood with coordinating practices, overall player development, general knowledge/guidance, and emotional support to assist our student athletes with their personal endeavors on and off the course. With the recent passing of NIL laws in the state of California that went into effect January 1st, Bakari is looking to become more involved in the NIL space specifically in media content creation which could mean a possible move into a larger role with the Harvard Westlake Wolverines in the Fall. For the time being, Bakari has his sites set on a successful 2023 HW boys golf season.
The Harvard Westlake boys golf season officially starts February 27th at the Servite Invitational @ Western Hills CC where the Wolverines will be looking for a successful season opener setting the tone for the rest of the season.
